Who is Jamie?
My name is Jamie, and I am the owner and founder of SD Wellness. Although I am just beginning the journey, my dream is to create a space where care goes beyond the basics, and where every treatment plan is as unique as the individuals walking through the doors. Thus, SD Wellness was born—a sanctuary of healing, driven by a holistic and client-first approach.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary, a PhD in Cognitive Development from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Post Masters Certificate in Counselling from Athabasca University.
I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, a certified EMDR Therapist, and hold the PMH-C designation (Perinatal Mental Health Certified). I also teach psychology at Red Deer Polytechnic.
As a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) therapist, I specialize in supporting individuals through pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. This includes working with birth trauma, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, loss, and the complex emotional adjustments that come with welcoming a child. My own lived experiences of birth trauma with both of my boys deeply influence my work and allow me to approach clients with empathy, validation, and understanding.
As a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist, I help clients process and heal from trauma in a way that goes beyond traditional talk therapy. EMDR is especially effective for those who have experienced distressing life events, birth trauma, or ongoing anxiety. It allows the brain to reprocess painful experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional charge, creating space for healing, resilience, and growth.
I am a mother of two amazing and busy boys and a beautiful golden retriever. I was born and raised in Red Deer, and my husband and I are proud to call it home. My interests and passion stem from my experience working at the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre and my personal journey through perinatal challenges.
With 9 years of experience in the field, I specialize in perinatal mental health, family systems, somatic therapy, trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy, and EMDR. I work with individuals—especially mothers and those who have experienced trauma—as well as families and couples.
With a combination of personal and professional experience, I strive to create an atmosphere of authenticity and comfort. Therapy with me begins with breaking down the myths associated with counselling and creating a realistic path for movement forward in a non-judgmental way.
I am honoured to be part of your journey in any way. I look forward to healing with you soon!
